Percy Street, Plymouth

Colmer Ecology was commissioned to carry out an initial preliminary ecological appraisal (PEA) of the former St Boniface Church in St Budeaux. This isolated and abandoned site was within an urban setting and comprised areas of poor semi-improved grassland and rubble, with the church having been demolished several years earlier.

Following the PEA, Colmer Ecology provided additional ecological advice during master planning and provided the client with a comprehensive Ecological Mitigation and Enhancement Strategy to support the planning application. Furthermore, Colmer Ecology was retained to provide ecological services for the site’s Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 status.

Ecological enhancements for Code 3 included liaising with the landscape architect to provide planting advice for biodiversity within a sustainable development. Nectar rich botanical species were proposed as well as plants that were drought residence. In addition, swift boxes were installed throughout the development where practical.
